Cairo has two main football teams, Al-Ahly, and Zamalek who share the Cairo Stadium in Heliopolis, and play their matches at weekends from September to May. Tickets for matches are available on the day, and you should expect the derby matches to be every bit as passionate as anywhere else.
From October - May, the Heliopolis Hippodrome offers the chance to see some horseracing at the weekend.
Every October, the spectacle of rally racing takes place around the pyramids, as teams compete in the Pharaoh's Rally event and create plenty of dust and noise, making it a great spectacle.
