Amongst the many attractions San Diego has to offer, one of the most popular is the world famous San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park, where you can see around 3000 animals in simulated environments designed to be as close to the real thing as possible - particular highlights are the Asian Jungle where the tigers live, and the African Rainforest which is home to the zoo's gorilla population.
The Zoo also operates a free range wildlife centre outside the city, and amongst its conservation and breeding programmes, the reintroduction of the Arabian Oryx in the Al Maha Desert resort in Dubai has been one of the most successful.
Belmont Park is not far from the city centre, and has a range of white-knuckle rides amongst the midway attractions and also offers plenty for younger children to do as well.
The Gaslamp Quarter close to the old harbour at Embarcadero is a popular spot for nightlife, with plenty of small bars and restaurants to cater for everyone, and was originally a sleazy place where opium smoke floated in the air, and vice was nice.
