Known as the windy city, Chicago lies on the West Coast of Lake Michigan in the north of the mid-west USA. It's a city of almost 3 million people, and home to the tallest office building in America as well as being the home of the Blues, and a destination that attracts millions of people every year for the local scenery, the majestic inland sea of Lake Michigan, and of course, the legendary shopping.
It's a place that is cheap to get to, offers good value accommodation throughout the year, and has enough going on to keep anyone busy: you can watch Oprah Winfrey's show being filmed in the morning, shop over lunch, and spend the afternoon watching the legendary Chicago Bulls playing basketball, before going out to some of the best nightspots in the USA.
Chicago has skyscrapers, boat trips and water sports on lake Michigan, and during the summer, there are excellent beaches and lakeside resorts within an hour of the city centre, while in Winter, you can travel for around 2 hours and find yourself in resorts that offer some good value skiing and snowboarding.
It's a year round destination that has a great deal to offer to the tourist, whether they're coming to the city for a short break to take advantage of the shopping, or on the way to somewhere else, and finding themselves with a few days to spare before heading for the West Coast, or one of the thousands of other destinations that you can fly to with American Airlines using Chicago as a hub.
