It may have a reputation for being the divorce capital of the world, and although many visitors to the Nevada city of Reno arrive there expecting to find a smaller version of Las Vegas, they soon find that the truth about the city is actually somewhat different. Of course Reno shares many features with its rival to the south: enormous casino hotels where you can enjoy brash lounge shows featuring big name magicians and big haired singers; the wedding chapels that allow you to celebrate that moment of luck with big win with a (badly judged and often regretted) marriage to someone you've only just met; nightclubs where you can dance until the wee small hours of the afternoon; and of course plenty of out of town golf courses where you can soak up the sun on hot days when the slot machines have lost their appeal; but Reno also has a hidden side too, a side which is more cultured and intelligent than Las Vegas could ever hope to be.
Reno is home to several excellent museums that show things other than the freak shows of Ripley's Believe it or Not, and also one of the United States' best philharmonic orchestras, and also contemporary art galleries that celebrate the most exciting movements in modern art. Reno is in short, Las Vegas with an A' Level, and is all the better for it.
