From arrival into the city at either Newark, or JFK airports, it's a simple matter to get into the city, using a cab, or one of the train services. With the famous yellow cabs seemingly everywhere, as well as buses, and the metro underground all providing excellent public transport services around the city, New York is one of the easiest cities to tour in the world. Cabs will add a surcharge if you want to cross one of the bridges out of Manhattan.
The city has been built on a grid system, with Avenues running north south across Manhattan, and Streets running east to west. Walking between attractions is possible, but it's a good idea to invest in a map of the city if you plan to do this, just to make sure that you're not walking miles.
