No visitor to the region should miss the chance to see the famous white villages of Andalusia. Probably most peoples stereotype of what a traditional Spanish village is like, the many villages stand perched upon picturesque hillsides and are made up of small villas divided by narrow alleys and streets.
There are many different places to visit, easily accessible by car from the coastal strip, although you should ensure that you take an up to date map and a phrase book, because away from the main tourist areas, fewer of the locals speak English. Amongst the most popular with tourists are Jubrique, which lies at the top of a mountain and has fantastic views of the Sierra RondeƱa, Carratraca, famous for the natural sulphuric springs, and Pujerra where you can pick up intricate leather work produced locally at good value for money prices.
