Third largest city in Spain, and the most important and busiest port in the country, Valencia is a city which has changed dramatically in recent years, as the local government and wealthy benefactors have invested heavily in order to make the city more tourist friendly, and attract many of the people who pass through on their way south to the Costa Blanca to stay for a few days and enjoy the culture and art on offer in the city where Paella was invented.
The centre of the city is where most of the main attractions such as the cathedral, the palace of music, and the institute of science (one of Europe's most popular tourist attractions) are located, and there are many small parks to wander through and relax in during the day, while at night, a vibrant nightlife springs up, and there are many quiet wine bars and of course lively night clubs in which to dance away the darkness.
An excellent alternative to Alicante as a gate way to the Costa Blanca, and well within driving distance of the resort city of Benidorm, Valencia is also a popular starting point for many Mediterranean cruises, and for a small charge, you can sail from the city out to the Balearics on a ferry if you fancy a few days on one of the party islands of Majorca of Ibiza.
You can get cheap deals on flights and accommodation to Valencia throughout the year, and once there, with cheap car hire in Valencia available in advance of travel, as well as Spain's low cost of living, Valencia is a destination that offers a great deal for travellers, not least of them being great value for money.
