Ibiza is the smallest of the Balearic Islands, and lies to the south east of the other two, Majorca and Menorca. An extremely popular holiday destination for several decades, since the late nineties, Ibiza has risen to prominence amongst younger travellers as the clubbing capital of Europe, and during the summer high season, big name DJs from all over the world de-camp to the island's luxury villas for a three month long period of excess and revelry, and millions of clubbers in day-glo T-shirts and baggy trousers descend on the island in order to get as messy as possible. Days are spent blearily sunbathing by the pool, wearing dark glasses to block out the glare of the sun, while nights are spent cruising through the bar lined streets of Ibiza Town before heading to one of the vast well known super clubs on the island such as Pacha, Manumission, or Space, where you can dance your heart out to music until the early hours of the morning.
Despite its reputation as the summer party capital of Europe, if not the world, Ibiza remains a popular destination for family holidays, which tend to be taken in the quieter northern part of the island around the resort of San Antonio, where it is possible to enjoy a sun and fun filled holiday without the chemical aftertaste that a night out in Ibiza Town leaves you with.
