Munich is a destination that is great to visit at any time of the year, and there will be sure to be something going on. The summers in southern Germany are hot, and sunny, which makes walking through the countryside outside the city a pleasant experience. During winter, there are skiing destinations within two hours of the city by road, and the city hosts Christmas markets that are a great place to pick up some decorations and presents.
Many of the seven million visitors to Munich come for the annual Oktoberfest beer drinking session, but there is another smaller strong beer festival in March, when the beer tents are not so crowded, and the hotel rates are lower.
