There are no shortages of either palaces or museums in Munich, and some of the most impressive are located in Konigsplatz, where around the square, with its Greek revival gateway, you can visit the Glyptothek, with its large collection of Greek and Roman art "borrowed" from Italy by Ludwig 1st. The three Pinakothek galleries house old masters such as the work of Botticelli in the Alte, the likes of Van Gogh, and Goya in the Neue, and modern art in the Moderne.
The Viktualienmarkt is one of the largest markets in Europe, and sells foodstuff throughout the year, and hosts the biggest beer tent in the city during the summer.
Marienplatz is the city's central square, and home to Munich's Café culture. The Neue Rathaus (city hall) is on the northern end of the square, and if you pay your visit at 11am, 12pm, 5pm, or 9pm, you get to see the famous animated figures of the glockenspiel perform. It's well worth watching the show at least once during your trip.
