As a showcase for the whole of Britain, and a city with a high international profile for centuries, London has more attractions than perhaps any other city in the world, but amongst the most important are the British Museums (including the Natural history and Science Museums), The National Gallery on Trafalgar Square, the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace and Tower Bridge. You can also visit the Globe Theatre on the South Bank, along with the Saachi Collection of Modern Art, the gruesome London Dungeon, and the majestic St Paul's Cathedral, the centre of British spiritual life for almost 300 years.
Beyond these attractions, there are also many others to see, Leicester Square, the centre of the film industry, the Imperial War Museum and Nelson's Column in Trafalgar Square, and that's before even beginning on the parks, and cemeteries that fill the city.
One of the best ways to see the city is on an open top bus tour, which you can pick up practically anywhere, and will show you all of the main land marks and most of the minor ones too.
No visit to the city will be enough to see everything - the National Gallery alone takes days to explore fully, but if you plan your visit well, and take three or four days to see the sights, then you can pack in a great deal into a city break in London.
