London could be considered the home of football, and has many teams representing its various regions in the English League, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Charlton Athletic, West Ham United, and Fulham are amongst the largest, but there are many others as well, and once the new Wembley Stadium reopens, the city will once more host the annual FA Cup final and all of the matches played by the England National side while at home.
Rugby is also popular, and the Twickenham stadium in Middlesex close by hosts many international matches, including the Six Nations games every spring.
Every June, the area of SW19 becomes synonymous with Tennis during the Wimbledon Tennis Championships - one of the largest events on the annual calendar, and thousands of players flock to centre court to watch Tim Henman lose in the quarterfinals of the tournament.
Minor sports played in the city include basketball and Ice hockey at the London Arena in the docklands areas, and every year, the Henley Regatta and University Boat Race attract crowds onto the banks of the River Thames to watch.
There are also many golf courses in the area surrounding the city which offer the chance for non members to try their hand, and surprisingly for such a large urban area, there are many parks, and areas of countryside where you can walk or even mountain bike to your hearts content.
