The events calendar in London is jam packed with things to do on almost every weekend of the year, and the chances are, that no matter when you visit the city, there will be something going on that you can join in with. Some of the larger events will have an effect on the availability of hotel rooms in the city, pushing up prices.
The year starts and ends with parties in Trafalgar Square that begin on 31 December, and wind down in the early hours of the morning before a parade takes place through the city streets in the early afternoon of 1 January.
Chinatown has parades and firecrackers - as well as the ubiquitous lion dancers on show for Chinese New Year in late January - Early February.
The University Boat Race from Mortlake to Putney around the end of March sees bridges filled with spectators, while at around the same time, the Daily Mail Ideal Home Exhibition at Earls Court sees budding interior designers come together in a flurry of wide collars and general flamboyance.
The London Marathon begins in Mid-April and most people finish the same day, although some are still going a week later.
The Queen's Birthday (mid June) is celebrated with the Trooping of the Colour, the most spectacular demonstration of pomp of the year, which is mirrored by its more sombre counterpart Armistice Day on 11th November.
The year closes with the Christmas lights being lit in mid November by a minor celebrity, and then the city gets ready for the New Year again.
