Mexico City offers shoppers everything from small markets selling local handicrafts and souvenirs right through to snazzy department stores like Liverpool, and Sanborns. The main shopping areas are around Polanca and La Zona Rosa. VAT of 15% is added to all purchases, although this cannot be claimed back, however in smaller shops you can haggle over the price and get a discount.
