The biggest festival in Mexico city's calendar is held on the 2nd November, when the macabre sounding Dia de los Muertos, the "Day of the Dead" is celebrated, and people decorate their houses with skeletons and supposedly, the souls of the dearly departed come to visit and party with the living.
In the period running up to the Day of the dead festivities, it is not unusual to see human skulls being dusted off, and shrunken heads sold on the market stalls for use in the festival.
