A comprehensive guide to Getting Around in Mexico! Find out how to get around on foot, by Bus, by Taxi, by Train, by Limousine or Car Hire Mexico Service. Includes a public transportation guide, daily schedules, passenger times and fees, and many helpful hints and tips.
You can get into most major Mexican cities either on direct flights or via the USA, and with two main internal carriers, Mexicana and Aero Mexico offering an extensive network within the country, getting from one place to another is a simple matter.
Buses and a couple of tourist friendly railways in the North supplement air links. Getting from the mainland to Baja California, or to the Caribbean Islands like Cozumel is easy enough on one of the many ferries that operate the routes.
Hiring a car is a good way of getting out and about, although longer journeys along Mexico's bumpy highways are not recommended, as garages are few and far between, and its easy to get lost.
Taxis are convenient in cities, and you will have no problem in recognising the thousands of green VW Beetles that seem to Herbie around all over the place. Mexican taxi drivers are notoriously relaxed in their driving, and as a rule passengers will arrive at their destinations safe, but shaky.
