Although the festivals celebrated in Barcelona are neither as loopy, nor as frequent as those in the South of Spain, the people of Barcelona are not reserved when it comes to having fun.
The biggest two festivals of the year are Carnaval in late February / Early March, which is a 10 day long pageant celebrating the start of Lent, when the city has fancy dress parades and dancing in he streets.
Another big weekend is Festes de la Merce, when the locals celebrate the sea, and indulge in races and a big regatta in the harbour, before heading to the bars for a heavy night.
