Not far from Orlando, on the East coast of Florida, you can visit the space centre at Cape Canaveral, from where NASA launches its rocket ships to the stars. If you are lucky, there may be a launch on the day you visit, and in truth its worth planning your trip around such huge specatacles, that are truly once in a lifetime experiences. There is an extensive museum and plenty of opportunities to get hands on with some large space vehicles.
If the theme parks of Orlando aren't enough for you, then a day trip to Tampa to visit the mighty Busch Gardens is a short-ish drive to the North. Home to some really impressive white knuckle rides; entry to Busch Gardens is often included in the multi-park passes that you can buy prior to travel.
