No visitor to Beijing should miss the chance to take a day trip to the majestic Great Wall of China, which marked the border of medieval China, and several sections are close to the city. The most famous part for walking along is Badaling, while the section at Mutianyu to the north east of Beijing has some of the best views and photo opportunities. You can pre book trips to the Great Wall of China in advance of travel, and this is a good idea, because many of the local tour operators will only have a limited number of places available on any given day, meaning that you could be disappointed if you leave it until you arrive.
