The simplest way of getting around Beijing is by using the subway trains. They are quick and clean, if a little creaky these days and have a comprehensive network that is reasonably easy to navigate.
Travelling by taxi is also good value, although few drivers speak English, so it's a good idea to book them in advance, or take a phrase book with you.
Although cars are now far more common on the streets of Beijing, bikes still rule, and there are many hire shops around the city where you can pick up a two-wheeler for the day if you fancy exploring.
