Close to the City of Beijing, and often visited as part of a day trip that also takes in the Great Wall of China, the famous Ming Tombs are reached along the Spirit Way, guarded by many imposing statues to frighten away would be tomb raiders. The tombs are open every day, between 8am and 5pm (although this can vary) and you can either pay on the door (typically RMB 30 for entry).
There are some 13 emperors from the Ming Dynasty were buried in the area, but only one of the underground burial chambers is actually open to the public.
