There is no specific shopping area in Venice, although many shops can be found along the streets connecting the station with St Marks Square, and almost every major designer has at least one boutique in the city. The local specialities of Venice are the delicate glass sculptures produced on the nearby island of Murano, (where they can be bought for much less), and the paper mache masks worn for the balls around carnival. There are many gift shops around the city where you can pick up masks at low prices, but the best place to get the fine quality ones is at the shop called La Bottega dei Mascareri (close to Rialto Bridge).
If you are on a weekend break to Venice, then buy souvenirs on the Saturday, as many shops are closed on Sunday and Monday morning.
