Most people in Venice will find that they walk around the city more than anywhere else, because the attractions are all fairly close together. Should you want to use the canals, in order to get from one end of the city to another more quickly, then there are three main ways of doing it. Cheapest are the Vaporettos, waterbuses that stop all over the city, and represent really good value for money as you can buy daily cards to get around.
Motorised water taxis are of course more expensive, although because they do not stop apart from at your destination, they are far quicker, and if there are a few of you together, then they are pretty good value.
Top of the tree are the legendary Gondolas, which offer a unique way of seeing the city, and are without a doubt the most romantic mode of transport in the world, particularly when the gondolier starts to sing opera to you.
