There is no shortage of places to dine out in the evening hidden amongst the canals and winding streets of Venice. Eating out is a lengthy business in the city, and dinner is something to savour, whether you eat in one of the cheaper outdoor pizzerias, or trattoria, or indeed go all out for a special meal at one of Venice's most upmarket gourmet restaurants.
One of the most well known, and therefore most popular places to eat is the famous Harry's Bar, an American restaurant favoured by Hemingway amongst others, where you often see celebrities in the city. As there are only 14 tables, it pays to book well in advance of travel.
Included in the bill in Italy, there is a 10% government tax, but meals are also subject to a further 15% service charge added at the end, and the waiters also benefit from a discretionary tip of around 10% left at the table.
