Published: 12/07/07
Commencing in 2008, when their new schedules are announced, Lufthansa will provide flights to Moscow Domodedovo Airport rather than the older Sheremetyevo Airport.
The change of airport in Moscow makes sense for both carriers and travellers, since Domodedovo is a much more modern operation compared with its counterpart and also provides much easier links to other connecting flights, since it is here that most of the Russian airlines are based.
Domodedovo is the largest airport in Eastern Europe as well as being one of the fastest growing, so it comes as little surprise to hear that Lufthansa are transferring there. As part of the move all the other members of the Star Alliance will use the airport too, again making the airport the focal point of travel into the area.
