Lufthansa moves closer to Iberia bid

Despite interest from other groups including Texas Pacific Bank who are also involved in the ongoing takeover of Qantas, Lufthansa are still thought to be in pole position when it comes to the takeover of Iberia.

Since it was revealed earlier this year that Iberia, with its large unique route network may be coming up for sale, many other international airlines along with banks and other investment groups have shown an interest.

Iberia who are one of very few airlines that offer flights to Madrid as well as places in South America are highly coveted by other partners, as they would add great value at fairly limited cost.

Lufthansa recently divested itself of its interest in a tour operating company to concentrate on its core passenger and freight aviation services, and the acquisition of rival carrier Lufthansa will fit well with its general ongoing strategies.
