The main attractions offered by Langkawi are the beautiful beaches that surround its coast. In particular, the best beaches tend to be the ones on which hotels have been built, and these are quiet and well served for water sports and diving. The best beaches are in the north of the island, and include Pantai Datai, where you find the island's best hotel, The Datai.
Much of the island remains as virgin rainforest, and you can arrange treks into it with a variety of local tour companies. Although the island is comparatively small and you're never likely to get too lost, it pays to take a guide in order to see the most interesting sights.
At Cenang Beach, you can visit Underwater World, which boasts an aquarium holding some 5,000 fish, and you can see them from Perspex tunnels leading through the large tanks. Other popular attractions include the Crocodile farm, which is a favourite with families with children, and the best time to visit is in the early afternoon during feeding time.
