Along the beaches of Langkawi, there are numerous places where you can try your hand at a variety of water sports such as sailing and windsurfing, and with many pleasant reefs not far off the coast, there are also plenty of opportunities to go scuba diving or snorkelling on boat trips - although you should always ensure that the instructors are qualified and take adequate insurance.
Just outside the main (only) town, Kuah, there is a small but very professionally run go-carting centre, where you can spend half a day racing around a the track competing against other people, and if you're good, winning a trophy.
The interior of the island offers many different hiking and trekking routes through the pristine rainforest, and there are also a few golf courses, which can be booked through your hotel's concierge, and then used on a pay and play basis.
If you're more interested in watching, rather than participating, then there are several sporting events on offer, including an Ironman Triathlon, Le Tour Langkawi cycling race and the Raja Mudu Sailing Regatta.
