The oldest part of the city, and the most interesting part for tourists is along the north bank of the waterfront and was developed when Dhaka was an important trading centre for the Moghuls. The area between the two main water transport terminals, Sadarghat and Badam Tole, where the panorama of river life on the Buriganga is particularly fascinating and always thronged with people and traders as well as lots of the boats that ply their trade inland, and some of which barely seem safe. Something of anathema to the rest of the city is the grand baroque palace, Ahsan Manzil, which is bright pink.
