Lisbon has an excellent public transport system with a good tram network, which is the simplest way of seeing the city. Most of the main attractions are close together, and can be walked between, although on hotter days in the summer, it is more pleasant to use one of the well-priced air-conditioned cabs.
For longer trips out of the city, it is a good idea to hire a car, which gives you more freedom than relying on public transport.
