Throughout the year, there are a choice of events and festivals to interest the traveller, and the chances are that whenever you choose to visit there will be something on to entertain you.
The year begins with the Spring Festival (Sechselauten) on the 3rd Monday in April, and this is followed by the Zurcher Festival concentrating on music and the arts through June and July.
If you prefer your music to be electronic, then Street Parade in early August - which is growing into an event the size of the famous Berlin Love Parade - will get you dancing, and the Zuri Jazz Woche in September will keep your toes tapping into autumn.
November sees a great time for drinking, with the Expovina in the Burkliplatz showcases the new year's wine giving you a chance to taste before you buy, although no-one will mind if all you do is taste.
