Visit Geneva in the summer, and you find a picture perfect city in the hot sun of central Europe, its pleasant buildings reflected in the simmering waters of the nearby lake, while visitors travelling to the city in winter, will find Geneva to be cold and icy, yet just as beautiful under a blanket of snow.
Geneva is the third largest city in Switzerland, and due to its location close to the French Border, is a completely different place to Zurich, which is practically German (very polite, and extremely efficient), or Berne (utterly Swiss, and bone breakingly dull).
Geneva offers superb international cuisine, as well as superb hotels and some of the most stunning Alpine scenery in the world. It's a city for all times of the year, offering excellent ski resorts and superb beaches nearby, and many fascinating attractions to explore when you're not prancing through the alpine fields looking for Edelweiss and singing Doe a Dear like a member of the Von Trapp family.
You can get really cheap deals on flights and accommodation to Geneva throughout the year, and although the city is certainly not one of the cheapest places on earth when you get there, it is a good place to shop for luxury goods such as designer clothes and Swiss watches, and of course tonnes and tonnes of rich sweet chocolate.
