The city of Sydney hosts vast events throughout the years, that range from small fringe festivals that you'd barely notice right through to huge spectaculars that you could hardly miss. It's a good idea to check one of the local events papers when you arrive in order to see what's on in the city while you're there.
The Annual Sydney Festival takes place throughout most of January, and includes open-air concerts, races, and firework displays, and on Australia Day (26th January) the festival reaches its climax with the Great Ferry Boat Race in the harbour.
February sees the legendary Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, when plenty of naked flesh takes to the streets for a hugely flamboyant parade.
