The majestic natural splendour of Horseshoe Falls is visible from the Canadian side at Niagara, and although less touristy that its counterpart on the US side, the area still has the ubiquitous souvenir shops, photo opportunities and a hotel that is extremely popular with honeymooners.
Attracting some 12 million visitors every year, there are a number of different ways to see the falls: the chance to get drenched by the spray on the iconic Maid of the Mist boat trip that goes to the bottom of the falls; a perilous cliff side walk that takes you through tunnels to get right up to the deafening drop; there are also viewing platforms on the Minolta and Skylon towers, and the Spanish Aero car - a cable car stretched between two rocky outcrops above a whirlpool.
The falls are just a two-hour drive from Toronto, accessible by bus, can, and train.
