Published: 25/10/07
The recent report that British Airways will no longer accept some sports equipment as luggage, including surfboards, has angered the surfing community in the UK, leading to a campaign being set up to try and change the policy.
Members of the British Surfing Association have contacted BA in their hundreds to make clear their disappointment at the decision and are hopeful that a change in policy will be forthcoming. Some airlines will ask for an additional fee to carry a surfboard and it has been suggested that this may be a potentially acceptable middle ground for everyone.
Surfing is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK and, although it is not flights to Honolulu that the surfers are booking every day, there are certainly plenty of flights to Newquay being bought.
