BMI has posted record profits for the past twelve months, despite the fog and security problems that caused so much chaos at London Heathrow during 2006. The airline made revenue of more than 900 million pounds, and was able to increase their margins thanks to greater efficiency, and falling fuel costs over the period.
BMI executives are thought to be even more optimistic for the coming year thanks to their acquisition of BMED, which will offer them access to a number of new destinations, as well as many new slots at London Heathrow that will allow them to follow through on expansion plans to offer flights to Dubai and other medium haul destinations in the near future.
With the new Open Skies agreement coming into force in 2008, the airline will also gain access to more lucrative routes to North America, including the possibility of offering cheap flights to New York from London Heathrow by converting some of its loss making slots.
