Lufthansa linked with Alitalia bid

Reports from Italy have claimed that German airline Lufthansa is in talks to join the bidding process for a stake in stricken airline Alitalia, prompting Air France-KLM to also enter negotiations with one of the possible takeover partners.

Bidders for Alitalia include Texas Pacific, who are currently in talks to buy Qantas, and the Italian budget carrier, AirOne.

The Italian government revealed in December that it plans to divest itself of more than 30 percent of the airline, which offers flights to Rome, after years of poor performance, industrial unrest, and several scandals.
