With a second quarter net profit of USD32.4 million Malaysia Airlines has recorded a fourth consecutive quarter in profit. This follows on from the airline launching its Business Turnaround Plan in early 2006, a plan that has clearly been successful.
The figures suggest that it is in the area of passenger flights where the carrier has been most successful. Sales were up by 17 percent on their passenger services, flights to Kuala Lumpur being one of Malaysia Airlines key routes. In contrast cargo service revenue fell by 8 percent.
Management at Malaysia Airlines still feel that major changes are needed in order to maintain their development, part of which is the sale of some aircraft as part of a reorganisation within the airline that will see more modern and efficient aircraft coming into service that will reduce overall costs.
