Malaysia Airlines has announced that it is seeking tenders from both Airbus and Boeing to provide it with around 55 new aircraft in order to renew its short haul fleet over the next few years.
Despite financial problems over the past 12 months, the airline has retained its commitment to upgrading its narrow body fleet, and has sought proposals from both major manufacturers for replacing its Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 aircraft with new planes.
The new planes will be used on routes within Malaysia and Southeast Asia including flights to Penang and Bangkok flights as part of its popular short haul network within the region.
