The currency in China is the Renminbi, which translates as people's money, although credit cards are widely accepted, and you can withdraw money from cash points using cards with a Visa logo on them.
Tipping is not expected in the country, although increasingly in international hotels, it is becoming more and more common. Most shops and stalls will expect bargaining over the price of goods, but your Chinese will need to be pretty good to get much of a discount.
The Chinese government implement a two tier pricing structure within the country, and you should expect to pay more for good than a local would.
