No visit to Korea is complete without seeing the last remaining front line in the cold war. The Korean War raged during the 1950s as a battle between the Soviet backed Communist North of the country, and the American backed capitalist South.
The war has never officially ended, and remains in a state of ceasefire that frequently threatens to break out into all out war.
The De-Militarised Zone cuts through the centre of Korea, and between the high fences, border patrols mark time as they pass each other.
There is only one crossing point between the two Korea's and at either side of the bridge that connects them, there is a rivalry between the two sides, which has seen them increase the height of their flag poles in a bid to have the tallest, and now they stretch dozens of metres into the sky.
The whole area is a fascinating place to visit for a while, although its recommended that you take an official tour, as it's a bad idea to stray onto the wrong side by accident.
