A highlight of any visit to Cape Town is the chance of a trip to the Winelands, where much of South African Wine comes from. The village of Stellenbosch is particularly picturesque with the surviving Dutch Cape colonial houses, and nearby, there are several large vineyards that offer tours. You can visit the Winelands either by car, which you need to hire in Cape Town or before you travel, and stay in hotels there for a few days, or on an organised tour by coach, which will take in many of the more interesting sights.
The Eastern Cape area where the Atlantic and Indian Ocean meet is an area of great natural beauty, and home to some particularly good beaches, in particular: Llandudno, and the nudist beach at Sandy Bay, both of which have good surfing, although the Atlantic Coast is generally considered to be better.
Hermanus is on the Indian Ocean Coast to the South of Cape Town and is a great place to see whales throughout the year.
