One of the larger, and more European flavoured South American Countries; Argentina is a destination with an amazing amount to offer the traveller. From the grand Boulevards of the capital, to the open spaces of the Pampas, there is something for most people to enjoy.
Most visitors will arrive into Buenos Aires and at first, it is hard to believe that you are not in Spain; such is the architecture and the feel of the city. There are street cafes, and all the upmarket boutiques that one would find in Madrid. Talking to a few locals however, immediately reveals the true nature of this city, at once friendly and challenging, there is an unmistakeably South American flavour. With plenty of museums, and a vibrant nightlife that rivals many places for quality and variety, it is a high energy, and inspiring place to be.
The second city, Cordoba, is as attractive as Buenos Aires, and in many ways, more interesting, as a lot of the colonial architecture dates from the great era in Argentina's history when it was the powerhouse of the whole continent, the 17th Century.
Much of the interior is the Pampas, where the Gaucho cowboys still live a traditional lifestyle that is as much Wild West as anything else. There are many fascinating sights including large salt lakes that are home to countless flamingos, and smaller towns and villages where local customs have blended with the Spanish imports, to create a unique rural culture.
