Management at Blackpool Airport are looking to have a new terminal building there by 2011 to cater for the greatly increased passenger numbers they forecast for the future.
Forecasts for Blackpool Airport indicate that passenger numbers are set to rise to around 1.7 million by 2010, and around 3.5 million by 2030. This year numbers are around 0.5 million, so the rise is set to be dramatic compared to where they are now. Although the airport has recently lost a number of routes, specifically flights to Amsterdam, Prague and Stansted, the airport are confident that new services will be forthcoming, especially as developments are made to the infrastructure of Blackpool Airport.
The North West is already home to Manchester and Liverpool airports, so Blackpool is not going to emerge as a major long haul destination, but there are plenty of opportunities for European services, and with volumes of passengers using these routes higher than ever the demand is always going to be there.
