The best surfer in the world, Mick Fanning, has put his name on the petition asking British Airways to reinstate the carrying of surfboards and other sports equipment on their flights.
As of next month BA will no longer accept surfboards and some other sporting items due to their size and handling difficulties. They seem to have underestimated the furore caused by this decision and will no doubt be seriously considering their position on the matter. Surfing has become a very popular sport in the UK, with Newquay being the major location for it in the UK, although there are flights across the globe that take surfers to their varied destinations.
Flights to Sydney for example take many surfers on their way to the big waves, and these people are supposed to arrange alternative arrangements for transporting their boards rather than take them on a BA flight. It may well be that the alternative arrangement is a flight with a different carrier!
