Qantas has just announced an order for almost 190 new single-aisle aeroplanes to be used within the Australian and Asian areas.
The order will be made up of the Airbus A320/A321 and Boeing 737-800, two aircraft that will bring improved efficiency to the Qantas operation and enable them to retain their competitive edge. Qantas plan to use the new models on the short haul routes within the area, across Australia, New Zealand and into Asia. The long haul routes, such as flights to Sydney from London for example, will still use the large Boeing and Airbus planes designed for covering long distances.
Delivery of the new aircraft will be over the next six years, with further options available for delivery up to 2017. This gives Qantas plenty of scope to deliver the flights passengers want and still operate profitably.
