Australian airline operator Qantas is currently liaising with both staff and investment partners in order to regain some organisational stability following the failed takeover attempt by Airline Partners Australia, a private consortium. These briefings include announcements that company Chairperson Margaret Jackson along with James Packer, a member of the board, will be retiring at the AGM later this year. Scott Connelly, Transport Workers Union representative also hoped that the briefings would include communication about how Qantas would deal with any bids for the company in the future.
The pilots are also seeking clear information from the management. These highly skilled people, the ones who guide flights to Sydney for travellers from the UK, for example, are hoping to have a greater involvement in the allocation of resources and funds.
What is unchanged following the takeover bid is the intrinsic strength of Qantas as a business. This is one of the reasons why the company was targeted in the first place, and it is reassuring to know that the airline still operates in the way it does, offering a first class service to passengers around the world.
