The Etihad Airways fleet of aeroplanes are to offer a brand new interactive television channel on all routes, beginning in June. The carrier operates out of London Heathrow and Manchester Airports, with flights to Abu Dhabi, the operators base, the ones it is perhaps best known for.
The new interactive channel will allow passengers to learn more about the destinations they are going to, the path the aeroplane will be taking and lots of travel details specific to the actual journey, with feeds coming directly from the aircraft systems in real time. This is a fantastic development that will really bring the facts of air travel home to people and with the real time element it will also make the journey so much more interesting than can sometimes be the case.
It is expected that other airlines will follow suit in the future, but in the meantime it is left to Etihad Airways to lead the way. They have been leaders in many other areas too, with customer service and passenger comfort just a couple of areas where the carrier has been innovative and inspirational.
