Thai International Airways has opted to order several new Airbus A330 and A350 aircraft according to an announcement made by the Thai government. The airline, which has an outstanding order for several of the A380 super jumbo aircraft is believed to have received a significant discount on the planes as part of its compensation deal from Airbus over delays on delivery of the A380.
The move underlines industry belief in Airbus planes as being the transport of the future, and many carriers are moving to exclusively use the European made aircraft rather than the rival products from US manufacturer Boeing.
The new smaller aircraft are likely to be used on short haul regional flights, while the A380 will be used for ultra long haul flights to Bangkok from London Heathrow, and on other premium routes.
