Emirates asks for more slots

Leading members of the Emirates board were in Canberra this week to negotiate for a large increase in the number of services it can offer between Dubai and Australia, and is hopeful that the private takeover of Qantas by Texas Pacific and Macquarie Bank will give the Australian government a push to allow increased competition on the route.

Emirates is hoping to add a number of additional flights to Melbourne via Dubai in the coming months, and positive signals from the Australian Tourist Board, keen to boost the number of high spending visitors from the Middle East and Europe seem to point towards increased slots being made available on the route in the near future.
